Rise of the Fire Tamer by Kailin Gow

After winning a contest for a popular game called Wordwick Games, five teens Gemma, Sparks, Rio, Kat, and Jack, are invited to stay at Wordwick Games inventor Henry Word's mysterious castle and play the newest level of Workwick Games. Little do they know, the castle is the doorway to a wondrous world call Anachronia where words can be used as weapons, power, and commodity. There is unrest in Anachronia, and if the five teens can follow the rules of Wordwick Games and prove to be the best player, one of them will be crowned Ruler of Anachronia.

My Opinion:

Rise of the Fire Tamer is an amazing book.  It throws together mystery, adventure, fantasy, and education all in one book, with a great storyline, great characters and lots of fun!  Rise of the Fire Tamer has the potential to become a hit like Harry Potter, Twilight, The Spiderwick Chronicles and others like it.  Kailin Gow is definitely an author to keep your eyes on and I can't wait till the next book in this series comes out!

The world that Kailin Gow creates is fantastic.  The five teens who win a trip to the inventors castle don't realize that they are stepping into an alternate world where their words are more powerful than they know.  By using words in the story as weapons, commodities and power, she creates a powerful way to improve your vocabulary without even knowing it!  The characters are not only interesting and likeable they are great heros and heroines for kids of all ages to learn something from.

I recommend this book to everyone.  Teens of all ages will enjoy it and not even know they are learning at the same time.  I will be recommending this book to all my homeschool friends because of how educational it is and how much fun it is to read.  I know both of my boys will love reading this book because it's got a lot of action, adventure, mystery and fun.  I really enjoyed reading it and will want to read the next books in the series!
