Link of the Day – March 31, 2008 – Homeschooling
Surfing the Net With Kids - This is one of the most useful sites I have in my arsenal of homeschooling links. I have quite a few links too, so that is saying alot. Surfing the Net With Kids is a resource that gives you access to all sorts of things, for free or by subscription.
For free you can sign up for their weekly newsletter, which includes three sites on a single topic. These sites can be anything from printable worksheets, to virtual field trips. Usually the theme of the newsletter goes along with the closest holiday, season, or event. Along with the three sites, you'll also get related games and quotes. You can also get this very same newsletter via RSS feed. I've been subscribed to it for the last 3 years. They always have something new and interesting in every news letter.
There is also a paid subscription news letter that comes with six to nine recommended sites, a printable handout, and lots of additional educational features, tip of the week, & Ask Barbara column. All of this, plus access to the members only section of the website, for only $39.95 annually or $5.95 monthly. It's a steal in my book. I've been subscribed to the paid membership for 2+ years. I've never regreted it.
With your paid subscription you get access to the members only section of the site, which has all of the newsletters archived, 100's of word searches, printable worksheets for wikipedia, and several ebooks. There is something on this site for any and every subject that you want to teach to your children. The subjects range from astronomy to zoo-ology, and for every grade level.
If there's only one subscription you buy this year, you should make it Surfing the Net With Kids. It's well worth the price, and you'll get more than your money's worth.
